While it’s probably too late to plan an official event for last-minute shoppers, that doesn’t mean you can’t make your store a welcoming respite -- offering great ideas, a fun atmosphere and understanding -- to those hectic latecomers.
Tips on how to serve last-minute shoppers:
- Make It Personal: Ask questions of and listen closely to your customers. Find out what the customer needs, so you can provide it. Don’t forget to ask who else is on their list -- helping them get all of their last-minute gifts purchased in your store benefits you and them.
- Make It Easy To Choose: Brainstorm last-minute gift ideas and suggestions with your staff (perhaps specific product or price points that have hit the sweet spot this season). Then create a "Holiday Favorites" display case to help procrastinators speed up their gift choices.
- Make It Enjoyable: Take some of the stress out of last-minute shopping by offering food, drink and good music. Even if you’re not having an official Christmas Eve party, make sure that there’s nourishment (of the literal and spiritual kind) to keep the stress low and the spirits high.
- Make It a Positive Experience: It's all about the attitude. Whether a customer buys a gift three months in advance or the night before a holiday, it’s still about celebration and love. Keep that in mind and treat each customer positively.
