While Facebook and Twitter garner most of the social-media headlines, Small Business Trends’ Lisa Barone says that business owners should also have a presence on, LinkedIn, the career networking website for professionals and companies. She says businesses can use the website to do things like build their traffic, their brand and their expertise.
Use these tips to get started on LinkedIn.com:
- Establish Expertise: While other social networking sites often skew toward the personal, LinkedIn lets users establish credibility solely as a professional in their field. You can fill out a profile, list your affiliations, display references, participate in Groups and answer questions through the Q&A. The more you participate, the more you can brand yourself and your business.
- Update Regularly: Strategically update your LinkedIn status with links to upcoming events, blog posts, podcasts or your web site. This keeps your name and business top of mind.
- Network: LinkedIn Groups give you a chance to get into conversations with other professionals (who can be potential clients or business partners). By adding value and responding to other people, you again help to build your own authority and branding.
